Music for Stargazing tonight on the Space Capsule!
The mix will be filled with warm drones. Compositions by Demdike Stare, Cypher 7 and DJ Frane mingle in the night air with a musical trip through Detroit techno, trip-hop from Bristol, England and then settling into some Swiss jazz.
It’s a nice, laid back set for these warmer temperatures.
I will be playing from a “new” Miles Davis album called Bitches Brew Live, which contains rare live performances of music from the classic album recorded at the 1969 Newport Jazz Festival.
Also, included in the ultra-spacey set will be a selection from Sun Ra’s funky 1978 album “Lanquidity”
On the Space Capsule tonight, Matthew brings the Haack!
He will be mixing in several selections from the innovative composer, musician and electronic pioneer… Bruce Haack. He is a guru of the vocoder and took the gadget to another level entirely.
There were several reporters yesterday referencing poet Gil Scott- Heron’s legendary spoken word rap, “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” (1971) , in regard to the protests in Egypt.
The comment “I guess the revolution is being televised” or something similar to that was made in regard to the Egyptian events.
These comments were possibly made without much knowledge of the original song, artist, or the work’s significance in the era in which it was written.
This got me thinking that maybe revisiting the artist and song would be appropriate, and also it’d be fun to check out what Gil Scott-Heron has been working on lately.
So, here is a video of the original single version of the song from 1971…

Also, Mr. Scott-Heron being interviewed in the 1990s about the significance of the title…
Check out the two cool recent songs in which Gil Scott-Heron collaborates with Jamie xx from “The xx”.
